I'll bake all the stuff on that platter. I'm just not the type to artfully arrange them. Into a tin they get dumped.
The decorated ones take about 15 hours, I made 300 of them, my right hand hurt like the devil!
To me, presentation is just as important as the cookies tasting delicious, after all, one tastes a dish with the eyes first!

Someone said it is due to instant gratification, like bbq. Grill'n is fast, but bbq(brisket, pulled pork, etc) takes longer than bake'n cakes or cookies. IMHO, it has to do w/measuring. I'll bake bread, sometimes....in a bread machine(dough) then onto the smoker. I'll even make homemade pasta, lotta measure'n there eh? But I just can't stand to measure and follow specific directions.
My husband's the cook and damn good at it. But he doesn't bake, except for the occasional bread pudding.
But I do work with a man who makes superb desserts. French style, American style, you name it. And he's diabetic, very slender, and doesn't eat the delicacies he makes. Crying shame.
Around the holiday time, it seems we all do our baking - it is never men though. Only the women - what is up with that? Most men I know will cook or grill, only a few I know will whip up a batch of cookies or brownies though.
I just whipped up several sets of cookie dough tonight with my wife... gonna do quite a bit of baking tomorrow.
I like to bake fruit pies from scratch, however, I haven't done it much since we moved into this house several years ago. I do cook dinner for the family on some weekends, but I just never got comfortable in this kitchen to do some serious baking.
