We still have to make the 65 mile trek to get some fresh veg's., etc.
But that's all. We bought a 14lb Rib Roast from Safeway and it's a "primal cut" in a cry-o-vac for $3.99/lb. Terrific buy. Havin a few folks over hope they like it.
I bought the 28-lb turkey a few weeks ago during a Thanksgiving sale, and that's thawing in my fridge now. I bought the ham yesterday, along with a gigantic pork loin that I will cut into 1/3 and 2/3. The smaller piece will go in the freezer. I have the potatoes and a bag of bread cubes for the stuffing. I also have the frozen pies, and the steamed/mashed squash that will go into the rolls.

Happy trails,
Merry Christmas to all.
Where in the world do you live where you have to go 65 miles for to get any veg's???? Wow- that must be rough!
All the main proteins--CHECK. I'm just holding off on vegetables and salad makings til later in the week. I might do an appetizer like hot wings, but we'll have an antipasto platter.
Because there were financial difficulties for some of us we decided early that it was going to be a scaled back Christmas, though everyone's bounced back for the most part. Still, we're keeping it modest on the gift giving. Instead, even though I'm not so much inspired by baking we'll do lots of cookies and stuff. Chocolate chip/walnut, white chocolate/macadamia, oatmeal/raisin, mocha sandwich...festive! Shopping and baking on Wednesday, I think.
We are having a hodge podge of things for Christmas. My family wants ham, I want a turkey. I also bought crab for crab cakes and I'm making a variety of dips and appetizers. I guess what ever we have a taste for that day. After all the cookies I've eaten so far though, I may just eat a big salad instead.
