not at our Mexican grocery store. Normally, everything is less there, but avocados are not right now. Remember some of us live in the mid west or border the mid west. We get stuck with paying for all the transporting of produce. The only place they are almost always cheaper is Sam's. With the tip on freezing them, buying the 5 or 6 that come in a package would be a great way to go.

They're ALL Mexican grocery stores here, and today they're 69c each, not very big. Probably come out to about $3 a pound, including the pit.

10 for $10. is about the best we can do here. This is OK if they are good.

how do you pick a good avocado?
The last three I bought were firm when in the store, and at home, I would gently squeeze them each day and they never really got mushy, but when I did cut them open, they were already half-rotten inside.

Elnina, did you try this avocado tip yourself?

I am hesitant to try it because avocado is so texture oriented, and things don't have the same texture when they've been frozen and thawed.

I have done this with bananas that were to be used in banana bread and that worked out fine.

That would be my concern too. When I freeze tofu, the texture is completely different & I would be concerned with avo.

It can be a crapshoot to determine peak ripeness in an avocado...which is another reason I don't like to pay $1+. If I get them, I usually get them pretty green/hard, and let them ripen for two days at most on my counter. Any longer than that, and I risk overripe/spoiled. But sometimes it doesn't work out, and you think you've hit the window right, but nope.
