I had never had yucca before I moved here, but most places have it on the menu, even fast food places have it here. I had never had tortillas growing up either. Here, corn ones are served with every meal, on the side.

The B vitamins that they spray on the rice is water soluble. If you rinse your rice before cooking it, you're washing it all away.

I loove rice. For me it is definitely crucial in pulling a meal together.

We never eat rice, unless we're having chinese. It must be a Hispanic thing. We eat potatoes with almost every meal. I'm afraid I don't like rice very much, unless it's flavored with something else. It tastes like the cardboard box it comes in to me.

Sometimes I will cook up a large batch and break it up and put it into the freezer for future use. When that happens I will eat rice a LOT even alone with some nice teriyaki or soy sauce (or occasionally Tabasco). When I go to a Oriental restaurant, rice is the main thing you will find on my plate because NOBODY can cook rice as good as a Chinese restaurant can! LOL

Eating rice with soy sauce is a peculiarity of some people that I can never get used to. In Asia, putting soy sauce on your rice means you're poor, because you can't afford other toppings for it.

Btw, if you want the health benefits of brown rice plus some of the finer characteristics of white rice, jus mix the two together in some proportion, usually with much more white rice. The result will be slightly rougher than pure white.

As an aside, I was happily surprised to find some really good Basmati rice brands in Walmart of all places. Kohinoor basmati and Tilda basmati are two of the best basmati rice varieties out there, but kinda expensive, even in walmart (a 2 pound bag is almost $7). The two brands aren't found in the usual asian grocery markets or american grocery stores like shoprite or pathmark.

Think outside the box.
Well, if use short grain japanese rice instead (e.g. koshihikari, even tamaki gold from california) and create a ball-like concoction, then you just made Onigiri!

I like rice so much, the only hot cereal in my pantry is Cream of Rice... 4 boxes. I have it on a regular basis.
