Unique, the high prices. But that's not good!

I probably didn't make it clearer in my last post, that I mainly only go to Whole Foods if(per checking the smartphone app Untappd, or checking their bar's beer menu on beermenus.com ) they have a new beer from a brewer I want to try, that was tapped at their in store bar. Or if in those infrequent cases, an item I like is on sale there. I do most of my grocery shopping elsewhere, FYI. The samples they do have of their food items throughout the store are nice, though!

I've been to Whole Foods twice in my entire life and I've literally laughed out loud when I saw the prices. I can get organic/non-GMO/etc. if I shop elsewhere and pay much less. I thought my DH's eyes were going to bug out when he saw the prices at WF, too. He was in shock for hours, poor guy, LOL.

That's quite a reaction to grocery prices at a grocery story known for high prices...

I'm curious about this because I've become disenchanted with Sprouts. The produce often looks worse than that of my local King Soopers, and that's saying a lot. I like going to Sprouts because of the smaller size and I have 3 of them within 10 mins of my house, but lately I've been walking out not satisfied. The ones near me have stopped carrying any sharp cheddar or jarlsberg cheese, and I've had to take back spoiled bread products. I hope the rumor of Albertson's taking them over is not true. That would doom them for sure.

Back to Whole Foods. I would go more frequently if there was one closer to me. I'm at the time of life where I don't think too much about the cost of grocery items for just the two of us, and I like to see different things for inspiration. As it is, hubby and I might go once a month if we're in the area.

Occasionally, I walk through Whole Foods as one of my hobbies is to walk around grocery stores.

It's organic produce is the same as you will find at the local Kroger's affiliate. It looks no better or worse but generally, it is sold at a 20% premium to the Kroger price. They do offer a wider variety of selection than the traditional supermarket. However, I can say that about any of the upscale supermarkets.

They do offer excellent prepared foods and since they are so expensive, they generally are willing to invest the manhours that are needed to run a good prepared foods section. Kroger's, other than their "test stores" in Greater Cincinnati, doesn't seem to be willing or able to make that commitment so the experience is less satisfactory.

Gee whiz, that is a first. I said something positive about Whole Foods. But I don't shop there due to the prices and all of the politics.

saying Whole foods market is as cheap as any main grocery store is like saying our local chain store is as cheap as Sam's. Of course there are items if you are into price comparing that are just as cheap or cheaper than say, Krogers. The same can be said about Kroger's versus Sams but all in all Whole Market is more expensive. We do not frequent them often as the nearest one we have is in Fayetteville which is about 45 minutes away. We do like Fresh Market as well and they are much closer. Trader Joe's beats them all but the company still hasn't decided to make an appearance in our region.

I have seen a couple of articles recently that indicate some Whole Foods are having money problems.

Vegan milk chocolate! Made with rice milk. Tastes like dairy milk chocolate.

And gluten free dairy-free pizza.

And organic chicken feet.
