All of the Sprouts in my area have a lot of organic produce. I thought that's why people went there. Maybe it depends on the part of the country.

OP I think that you are misunderstanding Whole Foods. If you are an omnivore there is probably very little that you would find exceptional at Whole Foods that you can't get elsewhere cheaper, maybe some fancy cheeses if you live (like I do) in a one-grocery-franchise-city. What Whole Foods really offers are things for the vegetarian and vegan that usually cannot be found too easily elsewhere. Now that I live somewhere with NO CHOICES BUT 20 KROGERS(?!) I have to hit up WF for many things I could get at a regular grocery in Boston. I like Yves fake pepperoni, silken tofu, nonHorizon/Stonyfield/Dannon organic milk, Gimme Lean, WF vegan curry chicken salad, WF vegan general tso's whatever.

I make absolutely no effort to go there and let myself live without all of those things, so sad.

What's good about Whole Foods? The horde of hot women that shop there.

Yes, that and the fried chicken. Their fried chicken is better than what is served at any fast food outlet or sit down restaurant I've ever experienced.

Luckily, Wegmans is one of the few supermarkets in my area that--correctly--displays a sign stating, "12 items or fewer".

The house brand mayonnaise at Trader Joe's is priced $1.00 MORE than the house brand mayo at Whole Foods!

both these food stores get on the exempt status of most people - while most other grocery stores get slammed for being 15 cents over someone else

I can't really get excited about 10 cent, or 15 cent, or even 20 cent price differences from one retailer to another, but when I can consistently save 50 cents to $1.00 per item--as I can by doing prudent purchases at my closest Whole Foods--that is where I will go for much of my food shopping.

(Note bene--Whole Foods utilizes "regionalized" pricing, and as a result, my local WF location uses "Philadelphia pricing". The WF locations to the north of my abode use "NY pricing". Therein lies the difference, and your pricing may be more--or less--competitive, depending on which of WF's pricing zones are in close proximity to your home.)

good post,,

while most all the other grocery stores are in a war over prices...w.f. are not...

and here in maine the variance of price is considerable...

the supermarkets feed the masses including the poor folks....w.f. does not and has no interest.
and as many w.f. shoppers have told me,,, "they cannot stand going to Walmart because of the rude shoppers " kinda snobby if you ask me...
