The stores that do not charge for packing and some add 10% to your bill over the cost of food.

I get most of my groceries and health and beauty items free or close to free and I shop at the local supermarket and buy named brands. I use Coupons, Grocery Coupons - TheGroceryGame.com You can check their site to see if they have Lists in your zip code. The entire concept is based on utilizing coupons, the grocery games list (they watch the sales and tell you when sale and non-sale items are at their rock bottom price) and stockpiling items. A deep freeze and extra pantry shelving somewhere in your house or garage is a plus. I used to spend about $1000 a month on a family of four and am down to about $120 a month and we eat very well with name brand foods and have name brand toiletries. I have been able to share food and items with less fortunate and it hasn't cost me anything. I just took 80 boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese our food bank. I paid 10 cents a box; it cost me $8. I got a ton of feminine hygiene products for free and took them to a womens shelter. The site is a true blessing and is helping to make a difference in peoples lives. If I can help you let me know. The Dollar Store in some areas has pasta, soup, etc. Especially if you live in the south.

In Southern California, I've found that some of the markets that cater to the hispanic crowd seem to offer lower prices than the mainstream stores do. In addition, there are the ones that were mentioned earlier that do not bag the groceries for you, such as Food 4 Less, Food Max, WinCo, and so on. I've found it hard to beat Walmart for canned or packaged foods like pasta, Mac & Cheese, Hamburger Helper, etc. Lastly, the 99 Cent stores, and similar discount stores often have canned and packaged food products at very inexpensive prices. Some of the products are off brand, while others are name brand. If you know what you intend to purchase, it is probably worth your while to check these places out when you're close to one of them, and see what they offer for yourself.

Default What is the charitable deduction on Angelfood?

I buy angelfood boxes and the food is good. We don't make charitable donations so I am not sure what that refers to. Anyone no matter the income can buy a box of food along with the specials. All the meat is restaurant quality. It is great for families and retirees like myself.
If you live in Florida they have something similiar called Share Florida. The difference is you get more fresh veggies and the boxes while smaller are a little cheaper since you have to buy the meat seperately. Still it is a good deal for any and everyone.

I think the charitable donation refers to the $1.00 that is given out of the $25.00 paid for the groceries (each order) to the sponsoring/host church. $24.00 goes back to AngelFood Ministries for the food. Just a guess if that is what the previous poster meant.

ALDI has reasonable food prices if there is one in your area.
