My husband and I have the same problem. I think a lot of people are being concerned with the lettuce because of the use of lettuce freshness additives, which are no longer permitted. However, I am quite certain I have identified my problem. Chemical Monosodium Glutamate. I go to certain places and get breakfast, lunch or dinner, and sometimes I have the most horrendous stomach pains followed by intense diahrrea episodes. They are gone in about 2 hours, but last time it lasted 6 hours. I have also zoomed in on certain restaurants. Chemical MSG is still legal I think in Ohio. Now in some states it is illegal. It is a flavor enhancer, not a preservative, as some people thought in the past. Did you know it is a chemical that makes our body think the food is tasting great. It triggers your system and as a result causes digestive issues. Can cause more damage as well. If too large amount, it can cause Alzheimers, among many other serious conditions. Chemical MSG is illegal in Australia and possibly several countries, due to the fact it is poison to the human body. Why can't we work to make it illegal in USA? It is a dangerous additive, and you don't get the truth from everyone. Our Government just sluffs it off as if it is not important!

I've always loved eating salads as main courses at restaurants for years. In the last year, I have friends who would drive up from Miami and ask me to join them at their favorite place for brunch. Every time,...yes, every time.... I could hardly make it home before a bad case of diarrhea would hit me. I happened to mention this to another friend and she asked me if I ate the salad at the restaurant. I said yes. She told me that she had other friends who had the same problem and that they were told that some restaurants wash their salad greens in a solution and this might be the problem. The next time I went to join my friends for brunch, I didn't get any salad. And....I had no diarrhea. I really think that my friend is on to something. Prior to the brunch friends and prior to salad warnings, I had gone to Texas Roadhouse and had a salad with steak on top. When we left the restaurant, within one block I had to ask my friends to pull over so I could run into a Publix grocery store to use the restroom. Diarrhea. I've searched a bit on Google and sulphite washing of lettuce is popping up as the problem. As much as I love eating salads at restaurants, I am going to have to stop. I have no problem with the washed and pre-cut lettuce I buy in bags at Publix when I make it at home. It's just eating out at restaurants.

Could also be the dressings, restaurants usually buy crap in gallon jars.
Somewhere such as Texas Roadhouse would not make their own dressing on site.
I would try bringing my own dressing, not store bought.
