Walking out because of bad service and not paying your bill is stealing. You don't do that under any circumstance. You pay your bill and the tip should reflect the service.
And you do know that when you steal and stiff the server that most have to pay the bill out of their own pocket?
You have some good parents teaching you good standards don't ya?

This happened several years ago. We went back to the same Applebees a couple of months after that. The service was much better. They changed the whole staff. All of the staff were new.
did you eat them? did you eat the main dish? did you complain to a manager? im not seeing a legitimate justification here (or even really an attempt at one). it seems like instead of complaining to a manager you took on the role of manager, complained to yourself, and gave yourself a free meal.
We ate the appetizers and just left. A lot of people at the place was complaining. Now, the Applebees is a lot better and I always go there now.
Yes! After a huuuuge wait, I didn't just walk out without paying though. The service was inexcusable & I let the manager know I was leaving without paying first, they tried to say I couldn't & I basically said watch me & left

You sound downright proud of yourself. Did you eat the food before you walked out?
I've never walked out of a restaurant without paying.
I have played a good joke on someone about that though...I had a friend who always wanted to go out to dinner with us, but every time it was time to pay the bill, she'd disappear to the bathroom. So once we went to a restaurant she used to work at. As soon as she headed for the can, we took the check up to the counter and paid, then went to stand at the entrance to the restroom. When our freeloading friend came out, we told her to hurry up and get out to the truck. We all hopped in and we peeled out and we kept looking back over our shoulders and she said, "OMG! Did y'all leave without paying?" and I said, "Oh, we got it the last six times so this was your turn." We didn't tell her we'd paid until the next day. I think she got the hint about mooching because she never invited herself out to dinner with us again.
I actually had a restaurant comp me the whole meal for my son and I - they even boxed my entire entree and asked if I wanted to take it home. I declined. I waited patiently as my son finished his dish, stood up, and walked right out the door. I have never been back. Ever. When the server came by and told me that the table was being comped, I nearly scoffed in her face. If she had tried to make me pay I would have called the police myself. You see, I had ordered a side Caesar salad and had already eaten a few bites before I saw a little chunk of chicken and thought, how odd, my salad isn't supposed to have chicken in it) and then it started to dawn on me that the salad had way too much dressing and I started to get the feeling that they had scraped together all the previously served leftover salads and served me that. By that point I was already nauseous, so I started poking around the plate with my fork and when I got down to where the pubic hair has been mixed into the salad I froze. I pointed this out to the server when she came by, and I told her that would be all for me, thanks.
If the restaurant had expected me to pay that bill, I would have demanded to first be allowed back into the kitchen and have the person who prepared my salad eat the whole plate they served me while I watched. In fact, I would have paid double if the store manager would have eaten from it too.
best to order the Bollinger champagne 1996 if you are going to leave without paying
