I grew up with grits - in the NYC suburbs.

My father developed a love for grits in the Marines. Like many dads of that era, he enjoyed cooking breakfast. We had grits and eggs for breakfast on many weekends. We ate them with real butter, salt and freshly ground pepper.

We also enjoyed grits on vacations in FL, NC and SC.

More recently, I have learned to incorporate grits into meals other than breakfast. I make shrimp and grits. I have a wonderful grits soufflé recipe that my family and friends enjoy. I also adore shrimp and grits. I've served them as a side dish in place of rice and potatoes and I have a kick ass cheesy grits bake that stands on it's own with greens or a salad.

Some people have said they are "bland" - I disagree with people who say they are "bland". I think they have a delicious, subtle, flavor.

Salt and butter, served with scrambled eggs and diced greasy potatoes. Best breakfast ever, when we were kids.

My former neighbor loved them with two sunny side up. He always smiled when he described the yolk running into the grits.

Thank you. I did a Google image search but couldn't make out the texture in the photos of the cooked grits.

Grits are great if they are not instant, Nasty!

I cook mine in a pot with salt and butter. Rarely ever cheese. My nieces like it with Mozzarella though!

I like to eat a small bowl of grits with 2 over hard eggs and a coffee, DELISH!

My Mom is from Louisiana so I grew up eating them!

Now I am going to heat me a bowl of Gumbo, GOOD TIMES~

I can't say I understand the whole 'grits' thing.

Whilst many American foods have succesfully become very popular the world over, there are certain US foods the world has said 'no' to and grits is one of them.

Do you really think that we care what the world thinks about our food?

Every country has beloved foods that aren't terribly popular elsewhere.... haggis comes to mind.
