We all need to find a good method. Watermelons are such a great fruit for a hot summer. And they are inexpensive too!
I shall try that. I LOVE watermelon, especially fresh grown! My grandparents have a garden that gives 80-100 watermelons per year, but they won't start coming in until late July ):
From an old produce clerk, I hold the watermelon in the palm of one hand and give it a good pat/slap with the fingers of the other hand. If I get a hollow sound and feel a bit of a vibration the melon is ripe. It's never failed me. Part sound, part feel. May take a wee bit of practice.

I tried looking for those brown lines shown in the picture.
It worked. The watermelon was awesome! Super sweet, and parts of it had that almost powdered feel that is the best tasting part of a watermelon, to me.
Yep - and they're all full of those "seedless" seeds .
