Dairy (and meat and just about EVERYTHING) is more expensive in Canada. Here in Montreal, I see in my nearby grocery chain that milk is ON SALE for $4 for two liters. Two liters is a little more than HALF a gallon. If it came in gallons here, it would be about $8.00 per gallon. ON SALE.
When I moved back from the States, even though I was born and bred here, I suffered from sticker shock. You know those blocks of cream cheese that you can get in the States for 99 cents (even Philly brand, when it's on sale)? Yeah, that's about $4 here.
The last time I bought chicken breasts in the States, which was in 2013, it was on sale for $1.77/pound. Here? It's on sale this week... at $6.99/pound.
