As for me, I don't buy EVOO. I always thought it was a marketing scam. I buy just normal olive oil.
Extra Virgin is for salad dressings only... for cooking, regular olive oil is fine.

When I made meatballs parmigiana last night, I wouldn't have thought to use anything but EVOO. It just gives a distinct taste to certain foods.
This makes sense. It must be mainly for cooking. It's terrible as a salad dressing.

I don't agree. I use EVOO, balsamic, garlic, salt and pepper and basil and come out with a delicious dressing.

Hate to break it to you, but that balsamic is even more likely to be fake than the oil.

Once you jump down this particular rabbit hole, there's no going back.

You're no fun at all. I've been all into balsamic vinegars for years (or what I thought was that) and Roland is the brand I've put on a pedestal and consistently buy. Now what.

I see Napa Valley produces both olive oil and balsamic. Maybe we'll drive up and take a look.

You learn how the real thing tastes, and be prepared for sticker shock. I just worked out the per-gallon price of the balsamic I use -- $11,377 per gallon. Luckily, a single ounce lasts me the better part of a year. That big-corporate crap you put on your salad has no relation at all to the real deal. It's not in the same ballpark. It's not even the same freakin' sport. (Pulp Fiction).

You can get real olive oil in the Napa valley -- St. Helena has the most producers. Start there. When you find someone who stands behind the authenticity of their oil, ask them why real-deal balsamic can cost more than $10K per gallon. I'm sure they'll gladly explain it to you.

Haha, that's funny, as I was typing balsamic, I was even thinking, oh no, what if someone says that is fake too.

This is a rehash of many of the threads on the Las Vegas forum where no one else but the above poster knows what "real and authentic" food is. Just place the "ignore" poster on as the thread will deteriorate into a "yes I do" and "no you don't" thread.
