Sally's is great too! Like I said, it's hard to find bad pizza in New Haven.
I haven't been to Tony and Lucille's. I've never even heard of it. I used to live in CT, but haven't for a long while, although I've gone back to visit a few times. If I go to T&L before you, I'll let you know. If you're planning to try it, ask about it in the CT forum -- dozens of people will chime in! They take their pizza VERY seriously!
T&L is a restaurant literally across the street from Pepe's less than a block away. Wouldn't go there for pizza. It's an interesting looking place. If I can convince my wife to roll the dice I definitely want to try Sally's. I will try the CT forum. Thanks for the tip!
It's hard to NOT get good pizza in New Haven. I love Frank Pepe's... and there are other great ones nearby when the wait is too long at Pepe's.
Agreed, Frank Pepe's is excellent, and as you noted below, so is Sally's. Would definitely add Modern Apizza to the "must" list for New Haven style pizza.

After the move to TN we found a Gondola pizza place that is decent. I miss an old favorite from Vero Beach that had a really good deep dish and the only one I've ever enjoyed. Vinson's (Spelling).

There is a little place is Holly Springs, MS called Victor’s Pizza (owners are Asian). I ate there 15 years ago and I still remember how good it was. Better than what I had in NYC.
Pizza is my favorite food!!!! What makes a pizza great? What are your favorite pizza toppings? What is the most exotic pizza you have ever tried? Where are the best pizza places in the country or the world for that matter? I have tasted all of the pizza in the city of Pittsburgh and would like to know where the good pie is in the rest of the US.
Pizza is also my favorite food (chocolate comes in at a close #2).
Among my favorite places is Casa de Pizza in nearby Granada Hills. In business since 1961. I also like Ameci. Believe it or not, Pizza Hut is pretty good... as long as I select hand tossed.
I basically like two kinds of pizza... pepperoni and plain cheese but with extra sauce. I never did care for multiple toppings.
I love love love love pizza. Best I've ever had was from Panny's Pizza in Ridgway Colorado. In the 70's I worked for a small mom and pop pizza place, a nice Italian couple. I made an M&M Pizza...yeah I got fired.
