My kids and I have weaned ourselves off soda and have enjoyed trying new fruit and veggie juices, creating blends, using our juicer and buying store bought. But we still get the carbonation craving, especially on hot days. We have been throwing out more store-bought seltzer water than we use, so I have decided to get a seltzer bottle with the co2 chargers.
Can anyone give me tips?
I have found some great appliances on craigslist that have allowed me to get better quality for less than I would pay for a lower-end new ones. And there are some very cool vintage dispensers on e-bay..... Is this the kind of thing that one can buy used or is it better to go for new? It looks as though the starting price is about $80 and they go way up from there.
What should I look for and what to watch out for? I've never used one and am clueless as to where to start. Thanks, all!

I made one about 7 years ago with a 20lbs CO2 tank and a schrader tire valve stem attached to a 2L bottle top. A $20 refill will probably last 50 years. I'm thinking a 5lbs tank would have been plenty. If I were going all the way, I'd attach it to a soda tank with spigot.
A soda dispenser is really simple. I haven't bought used, but wouldn't be afraid to buy something high quality. There's really nothing to wear out except maybe a gasket or two.
