I think you and I eat about the same and spend about the same. I don't keep a real budget either but I do know how much I spend.

Yeah, it was $3.50 a gallon when I was growing up in Detroit over the last 2 decades. For some reason, out here in CO it's crazy cheap. And it tastes different, sweeter.

Well, I am a student and live on my own although I often stay with my parents in the weekends. I usually buy groceries for 5 days (when I have to do the cooking myself) and eat the same meal two days in a row to save money. Anyway, I just went grocery shopping today and had a look at the receipt. As you can see, I mostly buy basic stuff... I can't afford fancy food lol As I'm from Europe, I converted the prices to $.

- Tagliatelle 500 g. = €1.29 = $1.84
- Cherry tomatoes 500 g. = €0.99 = $1.41
- Grated Dutch cheese 175 g. = €1.19 = $1.70
- Pasta sauce 350 g. = €1.59 = $2.27
- Courgette = €0.49 = $0.70
- Mushrooms 250 g. = €0.79 = $1.13
- Spring onions = €0.79 = $1.13
- Meatloaf (beef) 500 g. = €2.09 = $2.99
- Flour 500 g. = €0.29 = $0.41
- Eggs (6) = €0.89 = $1.27
- Milk 1 liter carton = €0.55 = $0.78
- Spinach (fresh) 400 g. = €0.89 = $1.27
- Applesauce jar 340 ml = €0.59 = $0.84
- Chicken legs 1 kilo = €2.99 = $4.27
- Potatoes 2.5 kilos = €2.49 = $3.56
- Vanilla yoghurt 1 liter carton = €0.89 = $1.27
- Macaroons pudding 450 ml = €0.99 = $1.41
- Ice Tea 2x 1.5 liter cartons (peach & green tea) = €1.40 = $2.00
- Chocolate milk 1 liter bottle = €0.69 = $0.98
- Milk&Fruit drink (banana flavour) 1 liter carton = €0.89 = $1.27
- Egg waffles = €0.55 = $0.78
- Chocolate cookies = €0.69 = $0.98
- Bolognese crisps 300 g. = €0.79 = $1.13
- Bread (white) 1 loaf = €1.09 = $1.55
- Cheese (Dutch) 175 g. = €1.00 = $1.43

Which makes a total of... $34.21!! Not bad, huh?

Interesting how your prices seem to be much cheaper than prices in America for the same or equivalent item.

Well I tend to buy the cheaper brands usually, there are more expensive items too. I always hear that European products are more expensive than in the US cause we add the VAT to our prices. Oh and btw the Dutch cheese for €1,- was a bargain, usually it's more expensive (around €2,-)

I usually stick to mainly off brands (except a few items) your prices still seem cheaper.

There are a couple others who post here, from UK. It seems their food is much less expensive but according to them and most others, everything else (mainly property) is much higher as are taxes. I guess it is a wash.

Default How much is your monthly grocery bill?

How much is your monthly grocery bill? I spend about $800 a month on food (for two person). I mostly buy organic. I need to reduce my grocery bill. How?

Seems high= $200.00/wk. What are you buying that cost's the most?
What meats etc do you buy? What is your "waste" amount in $ running?

Do you feed other people out of that budget.
We get buy on about $300.00 or less/month.

Our food costs are also pretty high even in NM and I can imagine that Calif. is not cheap.
