Growing up, there were 5 of us kids and mom and dad. We often had the aluminum tray dinners. Dad called them "army dinners" because he said they were like the military food served in compartments. We loved them. I last tried one a few years ago out of feeling nostalgic. OMG it was nasty...

I used to buy them once in a while but haven't for years now.
They seemed to be too salty (and I like salt) or bland.
They may be better or worse now, I don't know.

I like a handful. Generally they have too many fave ingredients. I like the lasagnas. Generally they don't have too many extra ingredients if you get a natural brand. I also like macaroni and beef if I add my own grated parmesan, kashi meals are great (and cheapest at Target, usually around $3). I have tried the chili from Kettle cuisine. This is excellent. It just needs a dash of acid to be perfect. Also trader joes chicken tikka masala is excellent.

Actually, I have occasionally bought a couple of the store-brand frozen pizzas, which are $2 each, and add some more Parmesan cheese and green olives and garlic powder. And then have a quarter of a pizza for lunch. The added toppings were was raising the price to about $3 a pizza, or 75c for lunch. I can usually make myself something for lunch cheaper than that, like a salad or a liverwurst and cheese sandwich, or an ear of corn and a tomato, or polenta topped with sour cream and butter, or a couple of scrambled eggs with some refried beans and tortillas. So I stopped buying the pizzas, they weren't that good and were an extravagance.

i picked up 6 kashi frozen dinners this morning at target for about 1.86 each. they had a buy 5 get 1 free deal and they were selling them for 2.99. i had 4 .75 coupons and 1 $1 coupon. i hope my wife likes them. that works out to cheaper than the aldi ones and hopefully better. she loves the aldi frozen meals but the ones that come with chicken have a miniscule amount of chicken, its like a joke.

I Like frozen pizza, but I fix them up with add ons, diced peppers and onions, crushed red pepper and extra oregano and garlic powder..
I'd prefer a doctored up cheap frozen pizza over Pizza hut or domino's any day...

anyone ever have those tei pei frozen dinner bags? ive seen them in walmart but now they seem to be spreading the regular supermarkets. they are going on sale here for 2.99 for a 24 oz bag. decent price consider the other similar asian choices (wanchai ferry and pf changs) typically go for 5.99-9.99.

I haven't done the bags, but I occasionally get the bourbon street chicken that comes in the little cartons. They aren't bad for the price, no gristly meat or unidentifiable bits of vegetation resembling twigs.

I buy the packs with Salisbury steaks & bbq rib

they are great for a convenient quick meal, just make some rice or instant mashed potatoes to go with it

I also like those frozen beef pies, turkey pies, chicken pies
