Tacos. Yuck. I am making them for my younger daughter who loves them - and because I brought home a glut of taco meat yesterday when we cleaned out the leftovers in the school cafeteria. Nobody else wanted it, and I hate to see good food go down the garbage disposal.
I love homemade tacos but not the ones they serve at the school. You are allowed to bring home leftovers? Not in our schools. If we serve what's leftover the next day and no one eats it all we throw it out. It's a sin how much food is thrown out in our schools especially the elementary, not so much in the HS though.

Our school is very generous about letting us take home the leftover perishables on Fridays - salads, entrees that can't be reheated and served again, etc. One thing I'm sorry about is that we can't do anything about saving the fresh fruit that the kids throw in the trash. With the new mandated "anti obesity" menu changes, the kids have to take a fruit and a vegetable on the main line lunch, but they aren't eating it. Dozens of red delicious apples, fresh oranges, and bananas are being just thrown in the trash untouched. I'd love to take them home, but I'm not going to dumpster dive.

Wow looks like your school could put out baskets if the kids didn't want them to put them in then donate to a shelter or soup kitchen. Shameful how much our country wastes food.
Had leftover spaghetti noodles with prawns and a garlicky cream sauce I made on the fly. As I saute'd some vegetables with oregano I tossed in some fennel seed, figuring the anise flavor is classic with seafood. It infused the sauce with a really interesting nutty flavor. Could have been the cheese too, so I'll keep playing around with the flavor. It wasn't mind-blowing but it wasn't bad at all.
