Great and healthy ice cream made from frozen bananas: when blended, frozen bananas turn into creamy, fabulous, ice cream.
And is easy to do:
Use about 1 frozen banana per person. Frozen is key. You cannot use non-frozen bananas and just throw in ice. They must be solidly frozen first. Use blender of food processor.
You might need to cut or break it in 2-3 pieces for easy blend.
The result is a super creamy and smooth ice-cream-like dessert.
You can add other rock frozen fruit to it like strawberries or blueberries to make it in different colors, or add dash cinnamon or vanilla.
Though I grew up on frozen bananas on a stick, dipped in chocolate. Best eaten while walking around the Balboa, CA. Yep. Straight out of "Arrested Development".
I also grew up on frozen bananas dipped in chocolate. However, I seem to have a problem freezing them. Any suggestions on the best way?
I have a bagful in my freezer now. I peeled them, sliced them into chunks, and put them in a freezer bag. They have not discolored at all. Unfortunately, I let my son take the blender away to school with him, so I can't try this treat.
I slice them and spread the slices on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Then put them in a ziploc after they are frozen so they don't stick together. I don't bother with a blender unless I'm making a smoothie. I just put the sliced bananas in a bowl and top with a little shaved dark chocolate. Tastes just like chocolate ice cream. AND BTW they will eventually turn dark. I think it was somewhere around 4 weeks.
Frozen grapes are also a great refreshing summertime treat. I freeze them just as they start to go soft and are no longer as good fresh. I prefer the red ones. YUM!
I use the frozen bananas in milk shakes. Just throw in a blender with a little milk and a bunch of ice cream and whir away!YUM
I also use them in bread or muffins. when they start to get speckled,
I freeze them to use later.
