The Pecan Pie Ice Cream that they put out around the holidays is to die for - it tastes like you are eating cold pecan pie mushed up with some ice cream.
Just got a letter about if I wanted to join in on the class action lawsuit against
Trader joes.
I'd have to dig out my receipts and circle everything that was labeled
Fresh, organic, healthy, then mail in with proof of purchases.
No thanks.
Anyone else get that letter?
Oh and I second the love for cookie butter, their 2 buck chuck, flowers, and lemon aid.
What I've noticed about Trader Joe's foods is that even the processed foods have a lot fewer ingredients than other brands. It may be processed food, but more often than not it's not processed full of junk ingredients.
I love Trader Joe's. Wish we had one around here. Their deli is fantastic. One of my favorite seasonal items is their chocolate truffles that they carry around Christmas. Sometimes they have them in the summer also. They usually put them right above the refrigerated or refrigerated food in the summer so that they don't melt. Best of all...they are very, very inexpensive.
They have some great stuff in the frozen aisle. I used to love these things called "veggie nests" and these small Italian meatballs that you could find there. They also have a really great baked bread and wine selection, and a nice variety of chocolate-covered items (nuts, espresso beans, etc).
Haven't been to Trader Joe's in more than a year, though. They just opened one here in Denver, so maybe I'll go back when I'm shopping for guests and don't feel like cooking.

That's what I like about them! Plus, the price for the quality is hard to beat.
Raw and roasted nuts, seeds, and legumes that I can't find at other grocery stores for a low price
cheese - organic and/or grassfed ... see above
Certain frozen veggies
minimally processed frozen chicken - when I checked other stores, they were loaded with salt
Sprouted flourless bread
I buy just about all my groceries from them, those are a few of my "must haves".

You've been to a TJ's with a deli? Our local one doesn't offer that. They have pre-packaged deli meats.

Yes. I used to live in the Twin Cities, and they had one with a deli. Then I visited my sister in LA, and the Trader Joe's we went to had a huge deli with seating both inside and out. We ate lunch there.
The cookie butter is kind of like crack cocaine. Just tried some a few days ago, and it's ridiculous. Thank god it makes me sick if I eat too much, otherwise I'd be mainlining it.
Other stuff I enjoyed from my last visit were the sweet potato gnocchi and the spelt risotto. The smores ice cream sandwiches were also insanely good.
Tried the low-sugar strawberry preserves, and i'll be using them from now on instead of the full sugar stuff.
The organic lettuce is ridiculously cheap, too.
