The company Ready Pac Foods, Inc. of Irwindale, Calif. is recalling more than 5,000 cases of ready-made salad due to possible contamination with E. coli bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration said today.

Products being recalled are bagged salads containing romaine lettuce with the use-by date of Nov. 18, 2011.

We stopped buying those bagged deals about a year ago. They're always getting recalls.

I've been afraid to eat salads for awhile now with all the recalls the last several months.

wow, thanks for telling us. I haven't seen a thing on TV about this. We absolutely never use bagged lettuce but we know others that use it all the time.

Dear Nita,
................The bagged lettuce salad mixes used to be very convenient for use when we were having one of our taco feasts, but then all of the health problems started to become an issue.
Now I just buy the heaviest iceberg lettuce that I can find ~ the last one I bought lasted for several days, was crisp and juicy and tasty, and I enjoyed it so darn much that I wished I could ride it all around the living room.

I buy romaine lettuce and chop it up myself. Those bagged salads seem to have a lot of recalls!

I know it is convenient, yes, especially for something like a taco party, I just have never felt the need to use it. Just like people use the cabbage (cold slaw) packages. I just get out my food processor

....and your stuff is surely much better than that bagged stuff ever is. I've never had a bag of the pre-chopped salads that were anywhere close to being moist and juicy.
