According to Tilapia - Wikipedia, Tilapia is the common name for nearly a hundred species of cichlid fish from the tilapiine cichlid tribe.

Anyone who could see Tilapia being harvested from a lake near where I live wouldn't touch it with a vaccinated crowbar. I've had very fresh still alive and kicking given to me and I cleaned it and my wife cooked it and we nearly had to spend a night in a motel. I'm a broad spectrum omnivore but picky about fish. Haddock only hits my plate unless it's something I know and catch for myself.

Remember there are basically 5 types or varieties of Salmon:

Pinks aka Humpies
Chinook aka Kings
Silvers aka Coho
Chum aka "Dog salmon" , Silver brite, just plain Salmon as Walmart labels them and other aka's...very low grade salmon, but is very good smoked
Sockeye: one of the best, high fat content if taken in salt water....rich red meat...my favorite

side note re: Turbot, depending on where caught can be from very mushy to almost good

Yep, I know this, but thanks for the information: many may not. Our son used to catch fresh Salmon when we lived in Eureka, Ca. He was only about 10 or 11 at the time. He and his friend would go fishing off the pier. As for the grading, like WalMart, Aldi's carries a low grade, but it is still Salmon, good and I will take over nothing anyday. Of course I prefer the really good stuff, just my pocketbook says "what the heck do you think you ard doing"?

As for Turbot, it can be mushy like you say. Many thin, white fish are that way.

After reading the article I doubt I'll ever eat fish again, and not even to mention shrimps.
