I'm considering buying a set of Kai Pure Komachi knives at Costco. I confess, I like them because they're pretty. Does anyone have them and are they good knives? I'm not a serious cook so I don't need the top of the line, but I don't want something awful, either.
Definitely buy them. I don't have the whole set, just a couple of pieces to supplement my set of Henckels. I now find I hardly ever use the Henckels and use my blue knife for almost everything. Love that knife!!
This set has great reviews everywhere on the Net. Seems to be a great buy.
However seems to be no longer available at Costco - for $29.98 THAT was an insane deal.
The next best price is at Amazon ( yeah! they made mistake with the price on their site !! ) for $59.99 Amazon.com: Kai Pure Komachi 2 8-Piece Knife Set: Kitchen & Dining
The only downside is they don't come with a knife block. Any suggestions on where I can find one that will fit these wide knives? Or, do you guys use the magnetic strip (and does that dull knives?). Or do you just leave them in a drawer?
I see that you picked up the knives, Caladium. Did your Costco have them? I am not in Virginia, but I'm wondering now if my Costco might have them too. I've been wanting new knives (I have three okay Henckels knives, and the rest are a crap set we got when we were first married), and I read the reviews about that Komachi set. I want!

Yes, they had about 40 sets. Merry Christmas to me!

Hand wash knives rather than putting them in the dishwasher as that can dull blades.
Use either a knife block or a magnetic strip to keep them separate. Storing knives in a drawer dulls the blades as they bang against one another and other items. If you must put your knives in a drawer, use plastic or heavy cardboard blade guards to protect them.
Use a wooden or plastic cutting board, not the counter top or ceramic board. http://www.isharpenit.com/Home/abut-...and-their-care http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/c...-strips-007445
