Yeah, no those aren't "facts." This was a consumer survey, created by an advertising firm that specializes in public relations for the food industry. The survey included answers from only 1000 people.
So 64% of 1000 people surveyed, share a particular opinion. The only fact, is that 64% of 1000 surveyed, share a particular opinion. I can't find the demographics of that sample population - were they working adults? College students? CEO and upper management males with trophy wives, personal cooks, and 2 kids in private school in Switzerland?
You're confusing facts with opinion, and basing your opinion on the opinions of others.
Also, the listeria problem with the cantoloupes, were the result of bacteria growing on some packing equipment. The fruits themselves were fine *until* they were exposed to that equipment. In other words, there was nothing wrong with the soil, or soil treatment processes, or the growth of the fruits. Also, considering how many people consume cantaloupe in a single season, the odds are still miniscule (less than 1/10 of 1%) that you'd even get sick from eating cantaloupe, let alone die from eating it.

you got it!!! and the sad thing, many people believe everything they read from these groups. Like anything else we read or hear, we need to take the stories with a grain of salt. I am not saying totally ignore them, but listen to both sides.
