At nearly 56 percent sugar by weight, three cereals (Kellogg’s Honey Smacks, Post Golden Crisp, and General Mills Wheaties Fuel) weigh in with 20 grams of sugar in a skimpy one cup serving. That’s a whopping five teaspoons of sugar — roughly the same as one Twinkie snack cake. And with today's oversized cereal bowls, a typical serving size is likely to be double that amount.

A single one-cup bowl of an additional 44 cereals, including the popular Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Jacks and Cap’n Crunch, are equivalent to eating three Chips Ahoy cookies — about three teaspoons of sugar.

Some kids' cereals pack more sugar than a Twinkie - TODAY Health - TODAY.com

Read those labels carefully, some producers list the nutrition amount per a cup, and some per 3/4 cup ( to visually lower the amount of sugar, fat and calories).

I wouldn't feed that garbage to a dog. Maybe it would heat up my compost pile.

I have noticed that at the Walmart in Gallup, NM the carts of some folks just loaded with these cereals and their kids jumping around like well you know...excessive sugar=hyper-activity?
Also lots of soda pop...

School breakfast everyday includes cereals like "fruit loops", "cinnamon toast crunch", "coco puffs", and other sugar cereals. Combine this with a pop tart or pancakes, juice and chocolate or strawberry milk leaves most children in a carb fog before school even begins.

That's right! Too much sugar makes the kids hyper, and hyper-active kids are sent to doctors, who gladly diagnose them with ADD...
It seems that is very hard to escape sugar and salt. Sugar is even added to products where no one expect it to be.

That's why I avoid those cereals, and stick to the ones that you don't see often in shopping baskets. I like the Shredded wheat cereal (non-frosted) and add blueberries to my cereal.

I also like Skinners Raisin Bran (unfortunately hard to find now) as the raisins are not coated with sugar.

Just one of those times where you really have to watch the labels and what's in the ingredients. I think alot of health problems can be avoided if parents pay more attention to the labels.

If that's not scary enough, read on down to how much sodium there is in them. One ounce of Special K or Corn Flakes contains more salt than one ounce of potato chips.

Myth.

Sugar does not make kids hyperactive.

Those cereals are garbage, though.
