The Ausie Burger thread inspired me. This is a famous Pittsburgh food. We're not known for much in the culinary word. Aside from Heinz Ketchup. And putting French fries on everything. including salads. Basically it's a typical hot deli sandwich with French fries and coleslaw on it. What makes it famous was the "experience" of getting one. The original location was/is in our Strip District. That's our warehouse district. It's open all night long to feed truckers. Think Soup Nazi. There were no special requests for fries on the side, etc. You never could be certain you'd get what you ordered. You had to settle for whatever they gave you. People would converge on this place after the bars closed just to experience the atmosphere and the abuse. It's a francize now and the satellite locations have customer service, which isn't the same as being abused while intoxicated at 4am while elbow to elbow with truck drivers in the Strip.

No, the slaw makes it inedible for me. If they make it w/o slaw, I'd give it a go. If not, well... adiós Primanti.

Pittsburghers put fries on everything. Even salads.

You know if the layers of the fries, or if they would be omitted, I think I would love the sandwich, considering I could only eat a quarter of it. Never had it but looks good..

Well you know fries are like bacon and are good on most things. I'm not much for cold sandwiches and deli style food. Looks tasty to me though. I'd give it a go.

You guys drink Iron City Beer, too. 'nuff said.

Imagine my horror when I went to a favorite restaurant in Erie over the holidays and found fries on my salad. It's creeping northward, like a fungus ...

It's alright, just a lot of grease. Philly has much better sandwiches IMO.

Usually I hate slaw, but at Primanti's is vinegar based and not drowning in mayo, which is why I can tolerate it.

I hear it's gross. They call it **** water. I don't drink beer, but I'm sure it earned that reputation for a reason.

Funny! I like fries on a salad sometimes. It's only good if the fries are exceptional. Ranch dressing is a must IMO.

I did forget to mention that I'm not a fan of the Primanti Sandwich myself. I've only had two in my life. One was at the Strip location (after drinking at 4am), and the other was at the more customer service real restaurant type place. They're slightly more agreeable at 4am, probably out of desperation for food at that hour.
