I buy an unsliced still-warm loaf of wide french bread at the supermarket, keep it in the fridge wrapped tight. It lasts nicely a couple of weeks, and I slice it as I need it, to desired thickness. I also buy fresh-baked bolillos, for sandwiches, I keep them in the plastic bag in the freezer, they take a couple minutes to thaw when I want one.
Not a daily bread eater, but I won't buy "factory loaves".
I like the Sara Lee 100% whole wheat, 70 calories per slice with 10 calories from fat. It can be found here for under 2.50 a loaf, well worth it IMO. Noticed it contains corn syrup and some sugar. Corn syrup is no more harmful or better for you than sugar, and because sugar has to be imported to some extent, I lean twards corn syrup. I wish they made granular corn syrup.
first choice, but rarely can get it (we have no TJoes near us) is trader Joes whole wheat sour dough. Otherwise we eat: 100% whole wheat, 7 grain, pumpernickel or rye. The brand isn't as important to me, usually I get it from the bakery if I can.
