I have my mother's original Cuisinart from the late 70's- made in France. All the original parts. (Model CFP 5A)

I don't use it heavily, but I do use it regularly.

I rarely use it to grate cheese , but decided to today. Unfortunately, the grater blade got jammed on the piece that rotates it, and when I pulled it off, the top of the rotater broke.

I can't believe this thing has lasted this many years....and I am bummed that I broke it!!

I am sure the new one I eventually buy will never last 30 years.

^^^Yup!!!

Old appliances are built to last, unlike many modern products today that not only "not last"... some are straight lemons that the factory actually OKed to sell & even has the gall to have you "need to" buy warranty or else no guarantee.... yike!!!

Thus, it is very very hard for me to justify opening up my wallet to purchase any appliance that is newly built. I figure if they even need me to "buy" the warranty = why even bother with that product!

I'm so sorry! RIP

I've had the same blender -- I don't even know what brand it is; probably Hamilton Beach or something similar -- since 1982. It's not fancy, but it does the job. I'll be bummed when it goes, too.

They don't make appliances like they used too. My MIL has her mom's stand mixer that's from the 1950's and it still works great. My mom's electric can opener from the 70's still works too.

I also have a Sunbeam Mini-food processor that I bought in 1992. It still works just fine.

I don't like that everything is so disposable now, that we have to essentially throw things away rather than repair them.

My MIL had the same avacado green fridge since 1978, then when hurricane Irene hit and her power was out for 5 days the fridge decided to not work after that. She now has a new one and hopes it lasts.

Cuisinart and Kitchenaid (Hobart) both make some pretty indestructible appliances and even the new ones are pretty good.

Personally, I never use my 27 year-old model as I just prefer to use my knives as they are a lot easier to clean.

Older appliances made to last! I have a Kitchen Aid mixer and a vintage 50s sunbeam mixer and it works as good as the Kitchen Aid!

Maybe you can find another like yours on Ebay!
