Bring back this old thread because I'm in the mood for sushi, apparently even at 9:30 in the morning...

I love sushi! My all-time favorite roll is a simple yellowtail and scallion roll -- when the yellowtail is super high-quality, there's nothing finer, in my opinion. I also love a good tuna + avocado roll. Rainbow rolls are good too, because I love the variety of fish (plus avocado!) draped around the roll.

However, I also love the stereotypical American-style rolls -- I have a weakness for spicy mayo (in moderation, I don't like it gooped everywhere) and crunchy things in my sushi as well. No shame there. One of my favorites of those type of rolls involves shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, spicy crawfish, topped with tuna, crunchies and spicy mayo. And now I'm officially hungry.

When the husband and I go out for sushi, which is more frequently than we should, we tend to get a good mix of classic "clean" rolls, and a couple crunchy + spicy mayo rolls.

The two things I don't care for in/on my rolls are eel sauce (not due to the "eel" in its name, just don't like the taste) and cream cheese. Not for me.

I haven't experimented too much but some of my favorites are the California roll, salmon and eel.

I don't like any rolls that have cream cheese, smoked salmon, and most of the time cucumber (all things typical in a Phili Roll).

While I enjoy rolls on occasion I much prefer sashimi...nice, clean fish.

Interestingly, I do not like maguro/red tuna. I just don't like the taste/after taste of it.

I never tried sea urchin but looks nasty and probably tastes of iodine or something.

Anyways my favorite are basics like shrimp and salmon, and red salmon eggs (ikura).

I like the modern twists too things that are fried like tempura and the like.

Just be careful though, you never know

Best Sushi place in California maybe the US.

Ninja Sushi and Teriyaki

I'm lucky it's only 40mins away.

FYI more to sushi than just rolls.

Favorite roll is the flaming dragon.

I like it when I can get it- usually Billings is the best. Even then it pales in comparison to what I used to get in D.C...

The best sushi restaurant in California is probably Urasawa in Beverly Hills.

Toro, Kama Toro, Uni and Ankimo are my current faves and how I judge a sushi restaurant (even in Ankimo isn't sushi).
