So the five minutes to empty the dishwasher won't feel so bad, you mean? You're right. That said, I actually enjoy washing the dishes by hand -- I find it soothing. But my husband has no interest in it, so he rinses the stuff and I put it all in the dishwasher.
When my husband was alive we took turns cooking and doing clean-up...Now that I'm on my own I have to do all the cooking and clean-up and "prep work" all by myself...I miss having my "honey-bunny" in the kitchen with me and sharing meals with him. Miss his cooking too!
I said earlier today hubby doesn't do either, I forgot, he does clean out the dish washer most of the time. I hate to clean it out so I appreciate it when he does.
We usually do bulk cooking and we have a cooking and shopping day every 2 weeks or so. Then we freeze all the meals and we only have to really clean the kitchen once.
I clean as I cook. Whenever there's inactive tending, like meat resting or a sauce reducing, I'm at the sink scrubbing what I can. And a frying pan is easiest to clean when it's hot off the stove after being emptied, like deglazing. Usually there are no pots or pans to wash when the meal is ready. At mealtime, each is responsible for washing the plate, bowl, glass, or silverware he or she uses. If it's a casserole, whoever takes the last serving washes the pan.
For big get togethers, everyone pitches in. The kitchen is always put back together by the time guests leave. It's easier because it's open to the den so we can clean and socialize at the same time. How can anyone hate open floor plans?
When I have a big gathering at my house all the women help me clean up while the men sit in the living room and talk LOL. I never ask for help but it is nice when people do. If I am not home and my DH has to fend for himself then he cleans up and puts everything away. The only times my dad ever helped my clean up was after Thanksgiving dinner, he liked to be in charge of cleaning up the dishes and putting away the leftovers, the rest of the year was all on my mom.
I usually do most of the cooking & cleaning.
If DH grills or DD bakes, I still do the cleaning...
If I have guests, no one is allowed clean up... I still do the clean up.
Guess it is like therapy for me.
Oh... and after the years, cleaning up not only becomes a habit, I have become quite efficient at cleaning up = speedy.
As a family, we usually hang out & talk about the day at dinner & while talking, I would usually sneak dishes to pile atop mine & after everyone is kinda done hanging out, it just take a short trip or couple usually to bring dishes to the dishwasher... really not a big deal. While entertaining big groups, I do usually use paper products... and just have a big garbage can ready... clean up is still a breeze.
