For me France, Italy, Austria and Germany. I do tend to prefer desserts which are lighter and not too sweet and I find French desserts quite good with things like Souffles and Mousses and the pastries are wonderful. Italian Ice Cream cannot be surpassed IMO. And Austria and Germany do make wonderful Cakes and Gateaux.

The worst desserts for me are Indian ( either too fatty or too sweet) , British ( usually very heavy and sweets apart from Possets and Syllabubs which can be light and a little tart) and American ( where I usually feel the sugar and fat running through my veins as I eat... ). Greek ( and Middle Eastern) and Mexican Sweets also tend to be way too rich for me.

French desserts are very pretty but not as tasty as Bavarian desserts.

You should vote then, America is on 0 so far, lol.

The U.S. As much as I appreciate creme brulee, gelato, eclairs, tiramisu, profiteroles, shortbread, and the rest, the queen of all--I would say--is the humble cookie. Not a biscuit or wafer or biscotti* or amaretti*, a fresh-from-the-oven snickerdoodle with just a little bit of crisp. Or oatmeal or toll house. Or a brownie, or fruit crisp a la mode. Is a brownie better than a napoleon or tartlet? Yes it is!

* Biscotto, amaretto? Sorry, I do not know Italian but think those are the singular.

USA by far for me. Cookies, pie, ice cream, cakes, brownies, shakes, malts. Love it all. Italy and France tied for a distant second.

I guess I am the only one who voted Thailand. My hubby is 1/2 Thai and his Thai mother grew up in the family restaurant in Bangkok, so I married into really good Thai food!

There is something about Thai desserts that is just so awesome... they are light, but rich, and sweet but not to sweet... they are balanced. They are just really amazing, but hard to find in the states.

My favorite is the very basic mango and sticky rice! Aaah!! I could eat that every day. Sometimes I do make it for breakfast! It's wonderful when it's done right. And fortunately most Thai places in the states at the very least serve this one!

I actually was going to put Malaysia instead, but I forgot. Apart from mango and sticky rice what are some other good Thai desserts? In Asia they tend to just serve fruit for dessert, which is healthier I guess.

Go India! So far it looks like I'm the only one!

Anyone one else like Indian desserts the best?

Mmmmm.... so real and rich, that's what's great about it to me!

Actually, I credit Indian sweets for re-igniting, to an extent, my taste in sweets (well, maybe not re-igniting -- I don't crave it often but if I do, I feel personally I might as well get a rich pleasurable taste while I'm at it). Funny thing that is, I "grew out" of sweet tooth as a kid, and pretty much don't have cravings (in the "impulsive" sense) anymore. I mostly like savoury foods to a greater extent than sweet now. But once in a while, I still go for sweet stuff if I see it on a menu or it offered as a buffet item.

In general though I get my kicks now mostly from drinks such as milk shakes and tropical fruit juices (among my favourite beverages of all time, even after I was a kid and grew out of "sweet tooth" mode; the adults lied and said "coffee/tea/beer/wine/insert name of other "adult" drink will taste even better to you when you grow older ).

For me it's a toss up between Germany and Italy. The neighborhood where I grew up had authentic German and Italian bakeries that were leaps and bounds better than anything else. I love a good cannoli (made with ricotta not custard).
