I won't list all the typical dishes from each cuisine...for me, it would have to be French/Swiss (since there's a lot of overlap). Having never been to Europe, I can only go by what I've had here, but I love pastry and the French probably do it among the best. I'm sure Danish pastry is great too. Italian is great - they have their own pastries like crostolli, cannoli and of course gelato, which is as good as ice cream. Their cakes and chocolate are generally to die for.
I don't know whether to include the US as an option but I guess I will. List the typical American desserts (apple pie, sundaes.etc). Actually on second thought maybe American/French are on par.

Since I haven't tried desserts from all of these places, I'm only going by what I know... I'd say Italian for their spumoni, gelato, Italian shaved ices and other treats that I've tried.
Going for across the board excellence, I'd say France. I've only been to Paris once, though I've changed planes there several times.
Walking back to the hotel in the 7th Arrondisement, there was a pastry/cake shop. Seriously, I wanted to eat everything in sight, but settled for a small chocolate torte which the woman put in a small box.
It's France or Belgium. Belgium chocolate is by far the best tasting, but French are better at pastry making. My god I don't know what the French put into those pastries that I had over there. We pretty much have nothing comparable to it here in the US.

I think the Italians are second after the France/Belgium/Luxembourg/Switzerland cluster.
I did vote for France, but it is sooooo hard to choose just one. I like what Wurzig said about us cause we do have about everything: of course countries like France and Switzerland have to be toward the top as well as Germany. And don't forget Denmark as well...So many choices, so many calories, and lots of good memories for those who have visited these places.
