I've never had worms but grubs are very nice so I'd be quite happy to try it ! Anyway covered in chocolate I suspect you couldn't really tell what it was...

It's quite common to eat bugs, insects, and other creepy crawlies in other countries. Just as bugs sound gross to us, our food is unappealing to them.

Escargot is considered a delicacy by the French, and its snails.

I hate snails ( And I am French ! I can eat them but take no pleasure in them) , and to me worms actually sound a lot better !
And you are quite right, all our food likes and dislikes are purely to be attributed to cultural bias and upbringing.

It's a question of trying to disassociate the "food" in question with our prejudices about them.

I love chocolate, but that is not enough to get me to eat worms. Yes, culture is where our food likes and dislikes come from, I guess. I took 3 years of French and had to eat escargot and it tasted like dirt...I ate dirt as a kid, I know what that tastes like

Default Little Weird Guy, But Can He Cook?

Yeah, I watch the "Bizarre Foods" show ....I keep telling myself that I am going to stop with this little Buddha-Weirdo" that eats too many gross things. He just goes to the extreme. The 'wood-worms' in that driftwood on the beach? the stinky dreaded fruit that the other vendors wont even sell NEAR THEIR BOOTHS in the open-air markets...The Durian (sp?).... c'mon now, Snake meat, eel, frogs testicles,,,,enough dude. We got to see lots of that on "Fear Factor".

There is just something about his demeanor that creeps me out. Now, if a handsome, guy like Anthony Bourdain, Bobby Flay, the Barefoot Contessa, Paula or Giada DeLaurentis, hosted the show?? It would probably be more acceptable. Guess I've been 'programmed' like that due to handsome anchormen, on tv for 50+ yrs. right?
However, I still watch! thanks for the pic posting!

What bothers me is the little "Club" that gets together to enjoy the Banquet of Insects/Buffet...whatever they call it...>Noticed that they didn't mention how much a nice juicy tarantula costs...and there are 5-6 people sitting around a table trying to 'SHARE THIS TEMPURA-FRIED' delicacy...like the poor little thing only had eight legs, C'mon guys get real!!!

My baby brother had 'exotic pets' for years...and from what I know; A Tarantula costs about $45-80 apiece. How is that feasible? Not about the gross-factor of eating the little crab-like legs...but TO PAY FOR THE ONE BITE MEAL! That is what grossed me out even more than the item they were ingesting, eh? fuggettaboudit.

One of my younger brothers and I used to give people chocolate covered espresso beans to eat and then told them they were eating chocolate covered roasted beetles.
You should have seen the looks on their faces. Priceless. lol
