So I was at the restaurant last night, and noticed that at every single table with parents that had kids that looked like they were in college/high school/ or even preteen, all of the kids were on their smart phones for almost the entire dinner. The one table looked like there were 2 or 3 families together and every single teen at the table was on their smart phone, which was 8 of them. Quite pathetic. Why do parents let their kids do whatever they want? Technology does not belong at the dinner table. No TV, no computers, no smart phones. How pathetic of a society have we become where people can no longer eat together for just 1 or 2 hours and talk face to face? A lot can be learned about a group of people not only through the food they eat, but also how.
Do you have teens? They don't want to be with their parents. Unless you are buying them stuff. Why make a meal more miserable? Banning texting at dinner? Right. That would really make for a nice time together. Not. Let them text away....at some point they do decide to talk, and then it is real...
Teens? I've seen plenty of adults do the very same thing. I think it's very rude and unnecessary for people to check their phones at a dining table. Period. Texting, calling, web surfing - it doesn't matter - all of it is uncalled (sorry pun) for. I can see having your phone available and on vibrate in case of emergency - but in those cases the Doctor or Loved one would need to leave the table/restaurant anyway to deal with the emergency.
