I love cake batter. I used to ask my mother to please just give me a bowl of the cake batter, but she never would. Not that she was afraid of salmonella from raw eggs or anything--we didn't worry about that crap growing up--but it would cut into the size of her cake. I got to lick the bowl, beaters and spatula though.

I crave cake once in a blue moon. I couldn't handle sweets such as cake every single day.

I was in the grocery store yesterday, and I walked past the bakery, where they had some day old birthday cakes on clearance. All I could think about was this thread! It was all I could do to walk away without a cake in my cart.

I have one for my birthday every year, even if I have to buy it myself. What's nice is when I have someone to make one for me. It's the thought that counts.

My wife made me me one when we were married. It was dried out and hard to get down, but I know that she meant well, and that's all that mattered.

Sponge cake with cooked buttercream frosting. The cooked type uses flour and isn't that sweet. Sometimes I'll flavor the cake with almond and the frosting with orange. Love the combo.
