I am posting this because one of my neighbors died last year - he didn't know about the recalled cantaloupes, and had some in his fridge. He contracted listeria and died.
Listeria Cantaloupe Recall Expanded to 188,000 Melons
FDA found 'unsanitary conditions' during packing shed inspectionby Helena Bottemiller | Aug 02, 2012 Burch Equipment LLC in North Carolina is expanding their recall to include 13,888 cases and 581 bins of whole Athena cantaloupes, 188,902 melons in all, for possibly being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday the recall expansion -- up from 580 cases over the weekend -- is based on "unsanitary conditions" found at the cantaloupe packing shed during the agency's ongoing inspection.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company's cantaloupes, which bear red "Burch Farms" labels, were shipped between July 15th and July 27th and distributed to retail stores in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The labels reference PLU #4319.
Chopped Onions with Possible Listeria Contamination Trigger More Recalls

Chopped yellow and white onions distributed by Gills Onions have triggered more recalls, as more food makers announced they were using the onions, which were first recalled on July 18 for possible Listeria contamination.
No illnesses have yet been reported in relation to these recalls.
1. Garden Fresh Foods, Inc. is recalling various ready-to-eat salads, slaw, salsa, bean and dip products under various brands and code dates. Products were distributed in AZ, CA, FL, IA, IL, IN, MA, MI, MN, MO, PA, TX, and WI.
2. Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC recalled its Calico Bean Salad sold in stores between July 18 and 26.
3. Spartan Stores, Inc. recalled its Three Bean Salad and 10 oz. Broccoli Stir Fry sold between July 13 and 26.
4. Publix Super Markets issued a recall of custom-made sub sandwiches that may have contained chopped onions connected to the recall, sold from July 7 through 26.

1. A Massachussetts-based maker of sauces and salad dressings is
recalling certain products because they contain chopped onions that were recalled last month for potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
Ken's Foods Inc. of Marlborough, Mass. is recalling its tartar sauce, barbecue sauce and coleslaw - each sold under different brand names - because they contain diced onions manufactured by Gill's Onions, which issued a recall of the onions July 18 after a sample tested positive for Listeria.
Gill's onions is a supplier for Fresh Point in Atlanta, Georgia, which further processes the onions before distribution. Ken's purchased the onions from Fresh Point.
At least 13 other companies have issued voluntary recalls of products made with Gill's onions after the company issued its recall last month.

The products were distributed to distribution centers, private label customers and brokers in the in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. All companies who purchased these items have been notified of the recall and asked to remove the products from the market.
