I'm going to make my first sweet potato pie (using fresh sweet potatoes). Is it best to boil them or bake them before mashing them. Any other tips or recipes are welcome...encouraged.

I have never made a sweet potato pie but I would think baking them would bring out more sweetness. Good luck to you. Let us know how it turns out!

I always make sweet potato pie with canned yams. I bake a few sweet potatoes or yams (and regular potatoes too), for those who don't want the pie.

Thank you. I decided to bake them because of comments on the recipe I'm using. Many people said that boiling the potatoes made them too watery and they didn't set as well.

This is how it works in my family, my mom uses the canned potatoes.
