I'm going to try my hand at making french macarons this weekend. I want to make some for thanksgiving dessert but I need to try out the recipe first. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? They seem a bit similar to meringues.

A friend of mine has a baking blog. Here is her recipe for macarons. Please note that she's a seasoned baker and even she said it was difficult and not worth the effort. However, she did provide many tips that you might want to incorporate: Caramel Fleur de Sel Macarons : Nosh With Me
Also: let me know if you need me to come over and taste-test them for you.
Thanks! I've definitely heard that they can be a pain. I have a one new recipe per holiday rule, so everything else will be stuff I can make easily and these will be my challenge for the holiday. They have been on my list of things to learn to make for a while. I'll let you know how they come out.
