I think this is a regional thing.

When I lived in San Diego, carbonated beverages were referred to as soda. Where I live now, its pop.

So, what do they say where you live?

Soda...if it's ANY kind of carbonated beverage....if it's a cola, then it's "Coke"!!! (Even if it's Pepsi, or RC!!!)

None of the above, unless I'm being specific about Coke. They're all soft drinks around here! (Central Ky).

You forgot the soda pop option. I generally call it any of the 3.

We're fairly proper up here. We call all carbonated drinks "soda". Coca-cola is called "Coke". Pepsi is called "Pepsi" (although it should be called "Pepsi-cola")

If you ask for a "Coke" and they only serve Pepsi, they'll ask you whether Pepsi is okay before proceeding.

In North Carolina it's often called a drink or soft drink.

It's pop in Pittsburgh. I've learned to say otherwise when I'm in soda country.

We're specific about our Coke. If we say Coke, we mean Coke.

Being a Texas girl, and coming from one of those "maroon" counties on the map, it's "coke" for me.
