Someone recently told this to me and I've been thinking a little bit about it. From a western standpoint I'd say this is pretty accurate; I have a hard time thinking of any foods that this won't work with. Now I'm not sure about eastern foods. I've never had an eggroll with cheese on it but it might be pretty good. Though I have had a cream cheese wonton and that was tasty.
Have you heard this saying before? Do you agree?

No haven't heard it and don't agree. I can think of a lot of food that dosen't go well with either. Lots and lots of seafood dishes come to mind just off the top of my head. Would you put cheese or chocolate on a nice poached salmon steak or fresh raw oysters? Makes me gag just thinking about it.
Oh, but it's getting so you can hardly buy a bagel, or even a slab of baked fish, without Asiago grated over it. And think of those frozen dinners that have a fish fillet and mac & cheese. Whether they actually go together is an entirely different question.
You can put Parmesan and melted butter on almost any kind of fish.
I don't think it is literally true, but darn close, as long as you are talking about foods from the USA. No, make that North America.
Oriental cooking, not so much. Most of European cooking, yes, except for vinegary things like saurbrotten.
No YOU can put parmesean on most any kind of fish. Try putting cheese on seafood in Italy and see how far you get.
