So for all of you who were kids in the 80s, do you remember Pizza Hut being much different than it is now? In both of the towns I lived in as a kid in the 80s and early 90s, I remember Pizza Hut being a place where you went inside to eat. They were fun places to go on a family outing as they had arcade games and jukeboxes. That was always a reward to get to eat in Pizza Hut and I remember countless birthday parties there. In addition, it seems like Pizza Hut was almost part of the pop culture of the 80s in a way (if that makes sense). It seems that now Pizza Hut is more of a fast-food restaurant and people either get the pizza delivered or for carryout, nobody seems to go inside to eat.
Does anyone else remember Pizza Hut this way or was it just like this in the towns I lived in?
I remember the days when they were more of a family sit-down place with a couple cheap beers on tap for dad and maybe a Pacman and Galaga in the corner. Over the years pizza became more ubiquitous and less of a "special treat" that you went out for, so now it's more of an eat-at-home affair. Nowadays most pizza places around here, chain or otherwise, are little more than a pick-up window, with maybe a table or two for those few who want to sit down and eat.
What Drover said - and also, wasn't it Shakey's Pizza that was the sit-down kind of pizza? Or Round Table? My best memories of eating in at Pizza Hut is that it was kinda dark inside with red Naugahyde half-moon booths.

Shakey's was another chain around during that time, although we didn't have one in our town, although we did have a Godfather's. I do remember the booths like you described as well as the dark interiors. I also remember all the bricks.
The Pizza Huts around us had red and white checkered table cloths and matching curtains. They had booths or tables. Soda was served in those red textured semi-transparent plastic cups, like this.

Ding ding ding! I remember a guy who was walking to a table with a whole tray of cokes in those plastic tumblers and then losing the tray half way to his table. What a mess. Lucky for him they replaced his spilled drinks, and even brought the replacements to the table.
Yes. Pizza Hut was always crowded, and the "in" place to go. Huge decline. Not sure why. I went to Pizza Hut the other day, for take out, the pizza was marginal at best.

Yes! I remember our old Pizza Hut was exactly like that, and I remember the dark wood beams on the popcorn textured ceiling. That building was demolished in 2002 and replaced with a larger more modern one.

Shakey's was more known for showing movies and serving pizza, and chicken and potatoes. I liked them a lot.
I stopped at one maybe five years ago in Milwaukee but it was awful.

I remember the actual pizza hut restaurants as a kid. I also remember they had a buffet, the last one closed down in the late 90s.
