1 inch. A whole inch difference. Despite being labeled as 'healthy" the average full sub contains more calories then a person should eat in a sitting as it is. So petty and stupid.
I'm still wondering - if Subway took the same amount of dough and stretched it a little more pre-baking, and post-bake it came out to be MORE than 12" - would people complain about that too?
Honestly though - it's the same amount of bread. If someone came to me whining about an inch of bread, I'd grab a hammer, and flatten the bread. And then, it'd measure more than 12 inches, and they'd have to just deal with it.
Ha! Love that idea, and that is probably how I would respond to (and why I don't work well in customer service jobs).

I get your point, and I agree that it is ridiculous to be whining about an inch, but really, I often buy the bigger sub and have it cut in half and save the other half for my spouse or for the next day's lunch so just because someone is ordering the 12" doesn't mean they are eating it all in one sitting.
I have had to delete some off topic posts and have left some others that are borderline (no matter how much I agreed with them! . Please make sure that posts are on topic of the original post. Thanks.
Really???? It's more of a concept than an exact science. I don't really give a rat's rear if a "footlong" is actually twelve inches of friggin' bread - it's the meat and toppings that count. Next, they'll start measuring the wonderful "Mom & Pop" pizzas to make sure we're getting our money's worth of dough there too.
John, not only is this not a "news issue" but you're the one who started a thread about it back in 2013:

Subway, the world's largest fast food chain with 38,000 locations, is facing widespread criticism after a man who appears to be from Australia posted a photo on the company's Facebook page of one of its footlong sandwiches next to a tape measure that shows the sub is just 11 inches.
My Way News - Subway 'crisis': Is footlong sub really 11 inches?
I assume that it is hard to make the exact length as it might measure a foot before baking the dough.
It's probably less before baking, as bread gets bigger while it bakes.
And likewise, I find this to be absolutely ridiculous. Time to teach those sandwich makers how to use a micrometer!
