Hunted, fished, cleaned, dressed, butchered and processed my own meat. I will never do birds - ever again. What a mess.

My sisters children are under the impression that meat does not come from animals - they are 9 and 7. When they found out one night that the food we were eating was from an animal, they got so upset and refused to eat anymore. Now we don't mention where the food comes from. Funny how they are perfectly ok with seeing the deer and antelope hung up in the garage for cleaning and such during hunting season.

your sisters kids reaction reminds me of years ago: my sister had several acres outside of town and raised both pigs and sheep, but mostly she just leased the land to others.. Anyway, one time (at least once) she raised a steer for butchering..she named him Charlie. Well when she came to visit and informed us, they were about to butcher Charile, my 15 year old daughter almost got sick and refused to eat beef for a few months. Long story short: daughter eventually changed her mind and like beef as much as the rest of the family. We never mention Charlie to her..
