Not sure about dough, never saw one do it, but NOT eating fish and mushrooms and red caviar definitely is. It's like Americans were brainwashed into not eating one of the best foods available.
What's up with the mushrooms? Is it national fungus awareness month?
I don't eat cookie dough. Neither my mother nor my grandmother did. A high school friend would eat most anything when preparing batter or dough for baked goods. A couple of times I saw her eat Crisco.

What? Who says Americans don't eat these things and what does it have to do with cookie dough?
I eat fish and mushrooms. I'm personally not a caviar fan, but I know plenty of people that are.
When I was a little kid and my mother made homemade chocolate chip cookies I'd get to lick the bowl.
I have heard of a chocolate chip cookie dough flavor to ice cream, dating back a few decades but it isn't something I would buy.
Back when I used to lick the bowl, MANY years ago, eggs were safe. When I first heard of the cookie dough flavoring, there were already warnings about not eating raw eggs, not making your own eggnog, etc. so I don't know why anyone would actually scrape the cookie dough bowl anymore. That's just plain gross now.

The cookie dough flavor that is in Ice Cream is not the same as raw cookie dough, so it does not have the same dangers involved with the flour and eggs of a raw cookie dough.
People are really taking big dangers in eating these raw products and it is astounding that they would feed it to their children based on some idea that they never got sick.
When my kids were young and all the raw egg scares started, I would actually buy pasteurized eggs to use when I made cookies, brownies, and cakes so my kids could still enjoy the fun of licking the bowl.
Costco had a "cookie dough torte" for Christmas , it looked so good! I did not buy it...wish I had...
