First: Yes, i own a deep fryer and use it usually only one time in a year. ( To make my springrolls). I am absolutely not addicted to deep fried food. It`s unhealthy and makes me a fat a** . When i am reading all the posts here at food forum, it seems to me as a deep fryer is an essential thing in the US.

How often do you use yours? And for what kind of food?

I don't have one and don't eat much fried food, it makes me feel gross. There are geographically regions where I think fried food is more prevalent but I don't think everyone in the US has a deep fryer.

I have a deep fryer. I bought it to play around with making donuts, tried it once, and didn't like the oil smell that hung around the house afterwards. I still have it because there's a chance that at some point in the future, something will need to be fried, and I have space in my kitchen cupboards for it. But it's definitely not a kitchen essential.

I've had a deep fryer for several years but rarely use it, maybe once a year, I don't like the deep fried smell that lasts for days, plus the smell clings to your clothes and furniture. My kids talked me into making homemade fries and onion rings a few weeks ago and we can still smell it.

I don't know a single person that has one among my friends and family, with the exception of turkey fryers, used outside, once a year. Personally, I hate fried foods, and never cook that way.

Only know one person with a deep fryer. And he has two. He makes large amounts of wings often. I rarely deep fry. If I need to, a pot on the stove works fine.

I don't own a deep fryer, know anyone who owns a deep fryer, or know anyone who has ever owned a deep fryer. The answer is, no, it's absolutely not essential.
