I forgot to list Mostaccioli Salad......made with equal parts of sugar and vinegar then add yellow mustard, onion and garlic powder, chopped celery, chopped onions, pimento (if you want the exact recipe message me).
Yum, I love all kinds of salads. I'm a total salad lover and I consider it a main course. My favorites are probably Spinach with walnuts, strawberries, apples, beets and goatcheese and I love steak salads, cobb salads, shrimp louies, cucumber/tomato/red onion w/ feta cheese, gosh..you name it...I probably love it.
I'm actually not a huge fan of macaroni salad though. Love potato salads. Not sure if coleslaw counts but I love that too. Just not the tangy KFC version. I love a good homemade coleslaw.
I have to be in a mood for a salad so I don't really keep the ingredients on hand at home. I will usually get a salad when I am outside of the home. Here are three that I like:
- Panera's Asian Sesame and Fuji Apple Salads
- Wendy's Apple Pecan Chicken
- Sheetz (regional gas station/convenience store chain) Made to Order Crispy Chicken Salad: Romaine, colby cheese, tomatoes, banana peppers, crispy chicken, ranch dressing
I like a variety to a salad - utilizing fruits, nuts, a sweet or fruity dressings. I grew up eating bland salads at home, so maybe that shaped my tastes as I got older.
In all of these salads (and probably a lot more) it is the dressing that makes it good and completes the salad. Yeah, I know I could make those three salads at home but I don't feel like it honestly.
I like salad and should eat them more often. I'll have mine with the most variety I can fit on it. Romaine lettuce, carrots, cut or shredded, onion, peppers, tomato, hot peppers, cucumber, grated cheese, feta if I have it, peanuts, cashews, or whatever else is around, dried cranberries, croutons and if I don't have them then I crunch up a dorito or chips then italian dressing with an extra shot of vinegar. YUMMY
My wife thinks I'm nuts since she doesn't like salad. She usually points that I have at least 10 different tastes on my salad. That's right.
Try a real Greek Salad - its delish (No lettuce in the Grecian Greek Salad, but lettuce is used in the American "Greek" salad. Its better without).
Hearts of palm and ripe avocados are good salad ingredients with a crispy romaine or a good butter lettuce - I never have a salad without tomatoes and thinly sliced onions tho. Often add a handfull of fresh dill or cilantro.
