I used to use Master Cook, but the company was sold years ago, and there haven't been any updates. It won't run on Windows Vista, so I went looking for a new program.

A company called Radium Technologies sells several different cookbook programs. I purchased Diet Pro - it also includes weight management utilities. You can import recipes, and they also include a LOT with the program. One feature I love is that it can calculate nutrition information from your recipes. There's also a program called Living Cookbook.

Here is their general web site. Once there, you will find links to their different programs, and they all have free trial downloads.

Thanks Claire! I'll check that out definitely.....I've typed some in, but I'm losing steam on it! I'm also looking at scanners, and using that..... just wish I could wake up and have it done!

I just found a free on-line site that is very basic, but nice. Here's the link. What I like about it is that you can set up "friends" on it and share recipes.

Free Online Recipe Organizer, Recipe Manager and Shopping List - WeGottaEat.com

I have my recipes on word too - folders for each category and I'm going through now and cross-referencing recipes. I am also saving everything on a jump drive so that in case my computer crashes, I don't lose my recipes - I have hundreds and hundreds and I'd be very sad to lose them. My husband accidentally erased the hard drive last year and it cost us a pretty penny to have it restored - I lost quite a few recipes.

I use Outlook. I mail it to myself with the term Recipe and (whatever) in the title and use folders and rules to make it go the right place.

I use MetaKitchen - Store and organize recipes online - a nice simple website that lets you store and tag recipes. I've found it's the quickest to enter new recipes in.

I am a remodeler and plan to put a computer with cooking software into a lakehouse that we have renovated, and is on the market for sale!!
In every house plan that we design, I put a desk in the kitchen for a place for moitor and access to cooking shows, or recipes..
maybe it's catching on with homeowners...

Absolutely THE most important thing posted here - BTDT and it SUCKS.

Just to be sure I'd save them to TWO thumb drives or external backups........
