Whatever they decide I just want it to be uniform. Trying to match up a recipe with a particular cut of meat can be troublesome when it is called something different depending on which part of the country you live in.

The fish known as "slimehead" didn't sell very well until it was re-named as "orange roughy".

Pork butt will be called a Boston roast? I don't understand that at all.

We call it the Boston butt now, so it makes sense to me.

I will probably still call it the Boston butt, it makes the kids giggle every time.

Yes, they are often referred to here as Boston Butts, so I get it. I hope they give us some kind of conversion chart so I'll know whats what! I completely agree, it gets confusing enough with cuts being called different names in different parts of the country, now we aren't going to recognize the names of whats in our local market.

First line at link: "In an effort to boost sales...". That's what I thought immediately when I saw this. They think sexier names will make them more money. They don't give a hoot if we're confused about the cuts or not.

Note to meat industry: people are eating less of your product because they can't afford it, not because they're confused about which part of the animal it came from.

I recently saw a chart online somewhere with the various cuts of pork and which part of the pig they come from. I'm sure there's probably one for beef out there too.

I would call it pork booty. That sounds more appetizing!

Boston Butt is shoulder, so it was already confusing.

Growing up we used to ask our dad what was for dinner. He'd tell us "the severed appendages of murdered fowl." Never failed to get a laugh. Pork butt was another classic laugh line for him. Guess he's losing half his comedy routine!
