This article was carried in our local paper today as well.. It is food for thought. I suspect we would all be better off eating red meat once a week or less.
What I got out of the article is lamb is extremely high in that substance, so the researchers to justify their government grant probably fed the mice the concentration found in lamb in order to get a result. Therefore they can justify their wasting of government of money. This leaves the door open to a follow up study and more money wasted.
And I got nothing out of it cause I didn't bother to read it. I get so tired of studies telling me what I can and can not eat and what it is doing to my body. Other than too many lbs, which is my own fault, I seem to be doing pretty well and know I won't live forever anyway. Leave me and my meat alone. BTW, we do only eat beef a couple times a week, but my dad and mom ate it about 4 times a week; dad lived to be 93, step mom 95 and my mother in law, who thought meat, both pork and beef (the fattier the better) live to be 97. She particularly live to eat.. My dad thought, if a steak weighed less than a lb per person it wasn't worth eating. Of course he also thought, drinking less than 2 or 3 cocktails or wine per night was cheating your body out of what was really good!!!! Like daddy, like daughter.
It is interesting that you rarely ever see the word MODERATION in articles like this.
This does give people something to do, stay scared and go to the DR. It also makes for great reading for birds in their cages. Or something to light my charcoal chimney with so I can cook some steaks.
Thank You to the media for keep'n birds entertained and my grill hot.
