Lately we have gone for the seasoned frozen fries, available in curly, crinkle cuts, and even tots, but we wanted to get some of the old favorite shoestring fries. After trying Safeway, Kroger (QFC and Fred Meyer) and even Walmart, none of them have them. They have steak fries, Crinkle, and even waffle fries, but no one has the shoestrings any more. Has anyone else noticed this?

Fortunately I have a cutter and can make my own, We use an air fryer (Ninja Foodi) but it saves a lot of time and effort to buy frozen.

I just checked the apps of all my local grocery stores (Harris Teeter, Lowes, Wegmans, Publix, Walmart, Target) and they all have at least two brands of shoestring fries. They aren't all explicitly called "shoestring," but they are. OreIda, for example, has a couple shoestring varieties, and one of them is called Extra Crispy Fast Food Fries.

I used to buy the shoestring all the time. The fast food fries just aren't the same. At least not to me.

I noticed as well at my local stores.

Few months ago I was browsing through the frozen food section and saw they had shoestring cut so I got a package. Something about the cut makes french fries taste better.

Kroger has their own storebrand of shoestring fries, and Ore-Ida sells them as "Fast Food Fries".

You can still get frozen shoestring fries at Fred Meyer. I just bought some yesterday. I have noticed it's been hit and miss with a lot of items there lately. I've heard it is due to a supply chain labor shortage.

Ive noticed the shortage as well. I used to buy the 5 lb bags of the fast food before the pandemic. Now is not available. For others asking, the fast food verson requires a much shorter cooking time.

They just seem to taste better to me as well. For fast food, you can't beat McDonald's, even though it's not nearly as good now as in the old days when they used beef tallow.

Not sure how they'd taste when cooked in an air fryer. Seems like everything we try in the air fryer comes out really hard. May not be doing it the correct way though. We have a Ninja.
